JOA VAN NIEKERK & DIAN DE WET CROWNED SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONS



The 2013 SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL AGE GROUP SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS were held from 22 - 25 March in Sasolburg.  PAC swam to 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals at the National Championships.  Joa van Niekerk and Dian de Wet were crowned national champions in the 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke respectively.  Van Niekerk dropped 8 seconds to take the 200m breaststroke title.  De Wet improved his personal best time by 13 seconds to win the 200m backstroke.

Hannah Butters swam a 6 second personal best to take silver in the 50m breaststroke.  Daniela Marrgraff took 3rd place in the 50m butterfly while Dian de Wet won another medal by placing 3rd in the 100m backstroke.

2013 DAY/NIGHT SERIES SWIMMING CHAMPIONS




The annual day/night series championship swim meet was held on Wednesday, 27 February 2013 and was hosted by Woodhill College.  This is widely considered to be the most important and competitive schools’ swim meet on the aquatics calendar.
The meet was hosted at the 10 lane, Woodhill College swimming pool where the following 10 schools were represented:

(1)  Woodhill College  (2)  Curro Invitational Team  (3)  Hatfield Christian School  (4)  Tyger Valley College
(5) Crawford Preparatory School  (6)  Midstream College  (7)  Garsfontein Primary  (8)  Monument Park Primary  (9)  Menlo Park Primary  (10)  Southdowns College.

The Menlo Park Primary swimmers, coached by Marcel da Ponte, Eugene, George and Charl turned out astonishing performances and ended the meet by winning the 12 x 25m ladder relay by almost 25 metres on route to their 33 point lead at the top of the points table.  Menlo Park therefore won the championships convincingly and they are the 2013 day/night series champions!
