George Du Rand Biography
After being involved at PAC as a swimmer, George will now be involved as a part-time
Assistant Coach and Technical Specialist at PAC. Members can be rest assured that George will
be present on the pool deck as much as his other obligations allow him to be. George will NOT be joining our team as a “silent partner”. He is intent on being actively involved with
all the swimmers and he is very much a people’s person who loves working with
the younger swimmers. For the PAC members and parents that don’t know George yet, here are
some of his achievements:
- 2008 Beijing Olympic
Team Member – South Africa
- 2009 World Record
Holder 200m Backstroke
- 2008 World Short Course
Championships (25m) – Manchester, Great Britain
- 2007 World Championships
Team – Melbourne, AUS
- 2006 Commonwealth Games
Team – Melbourne, AUS
- Swimming Scholarship to
the University of Tennessee, USA
It’s safe to say that this partnership can only be to
everyone’s advantage and the benefits to all the swimmers will be far reaching. With the added manpower we will be increasing
the frequency of clinics and stroke sessions while adding more emphasis to
stroke technique and stroke correction.
PAC’s “headquarters” will remain at Virgin
Active Moreleta Park although there are 2 other
squads at 2 different swimming pools in the area that will join and form part
of Pretoria Aquatic Club.
It is very important that bigger, stronger clubs are
established in Pretoria and South Africa as a whole in order to improve the
level of competition and awareness of the sport. In the 1990’s and 2000's PAC was one of the most
powerful and strongest swimming clubs in South Africa. We are now on the fast track to achieving
that level once again.
